Living in Australia, Christmas is hot … the middle of our summer … so there is nothing better on christmas day than lots of fresh fruit, prawns and cold salads, followed by nice cold drink with bubbles, with family and friends in the cool air conditioning … :-)

Thanks for the opportunity! My favorite tradition is the advent calendar. Besides counting down the days, each day brings a different aspect of the holiday season into focus. By taking a few minutes each day to ponder the season, it seems to slow down the hectic pace and remind one of the gift of each day. Too bad we don’t have advent calendars year-round!

Our favorite Christmas tradition is decorating cookies. My children are grown and gone from home, but when they are here at Christmas, they still expect to have a cookie decorating party. And you know what? They still make nearly as much mess in their mid to late 20′s as they did when they were small! Thanks for hosting the giveaway, that is a lovely prize.

I love calendars and filling in the pages with special dates and events. My favorite holiday tradition is being at my mother-in-law’s house with all those family members who can come and having a musical extravaganza, starting with the youngest child and going up in age. We have solo singers, piano players, guitarists, trumpeters, and the occasional harmonica or accordian player, and then we finish up by singing carols together. It’s a unique activity that all can participate in if they choose.

I fill Christmas stockings for my sister’s grown children, something I started doing when she was in the hospital over the holiday, being treated for leukemia. Now when I do it, I think of her and try to choose things that would have made her smile or reflect her sense of whimsy and fun. It makes me miss her a bit less, and I hope it does the same for her daughters.
