Spell it with Fabric Moda Blog Hop

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

Thank you for joining me for the “Spell it with Fabric” Moda Blog Hop.

My letter is … L

I made my block using two of my favorite fabrics from my “High Street” collection. They are  Moda 1147019 and 1147413. You can find the instructions to make this letter here.

What are your initials?
My initials are LA.

My favorite quilt block
Well, that’s a hard question but right now I’m loving the simple pinwheel motif in the “LOUISIANA” quilt block. I designed this with three of the fabrics coming out this May in my “Folklore” collection. They are as follows: Moda 1148316, 1148415 and 1148516.

Here is a sneak peek at my Folklore collection.

My favorite memory about school …
LOCKING LIPS
with my high school boyfriend in front of my LOCKER. I guess I was a bit of a rebel:)

My favorite book, movie or television show …
Anything starring Jude LAW!

I love quilting because …
it’s on my LIST of things to learn because truth be told I’m a bit of a novice. I have found designing quilt patterns has been an excellent way for me to learn the basics, with the help of some talented and experienced friends. Up for grabs today is my “High Street” quilt pattern as well as a layer cake. To enter, comment below about why you love quilting and I will choose a random winner on February 28th.

What if everyday was a holiday?
That would be wonderful as I’d have more time to pursue all of the creative activities I LOVE.

Is there an object, tool or anything that you cannot work without?
My LONG-SUFFERING Cintiq love designing by drawing directly on my computer monitor.

Do you have a quote or motto you live (or work) by?
This one popped up on Facebook today and kind of struck a chord.

Something I like …
LIAM FAHY SHOES

Somewhere I have been …
LONDON, LUXEMBOURG, LAS VEGAS, AND LOS ANGELES.

Somewhere I want to go …
LE ÓN
, Spain is on my LIST for travel in the near future.

Someone I know ….
IsabeLLa, my eight year old daughter. The picture below is of Isabella using a pottery wheel. I just love her creative passion!

Thanks so much for joining me and a very special thanks to Moda.  Be sure to visit all of the talented Moda designers that will be posting over the next few days. Here is the link just in case:

Inspiring Holiday Tradition

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

I love Thanksgiving because it’s the time to express your gratitude for the blessings in your life. Here in Canada we celebrated Thanksgiving last month and this is something I did with my family this year so I’m going to share this with my American friends who will be celebrating Thanksgiving this month.

Using these leaf templates, have your guests write about the things that they are thankful for and place them in a jar. At Thanksgiving dinner, we took turns reading notes from the jar. I think it gave all of us a warm fuzzy feeling and my wish is to continue the tradition every year.

Dress up your treat bags!

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Here’s a fun and super easy Halloween craft! I used Speedball Speedy-Carve blocks readily available at Michael’s . This material cuts like butter and is so fast to work with, just use any carving knife or the following set, also available at Michael’s. I stamped my designs onto glassine bags and I think they make great goody bags for Halloween.

You can download my designs here if you’d like or create your own. Have fun and Happy Halloween!

Granville Island Farmers Market 2nd Annual Pie Contest Winner!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Hello all! It’s Sandy from the Lily Ashbury team here! I wanted to thank each of you for your inspiration towards our “Granville Island Fall Fest 2nd Annual Pie Contest” that took place last Thursday!

Having never baked a pie before, I knew I was in for a challenge when I decided to enter! So what did I do next? I researched! I read through many of your recipes, tricks, tutorials and tips and then composed a recipe for what I felt was the perfect balance of savory and sweet – Sandy’s Organic Rosemary Apple Pie, in a Meyer Lemon Crust with Caramelized Pecans! I entered the contest, and won 1st Prize for the Best Overall Pie! I also won a bonus 2nd prize for the Most Artistic Pie! With a smile stretched from cheek to cheek, I was happy to accept the beautiful prizes!

I encourage each of you to try baking this pie yourselves and have therefore written up the recipe for you! Please click here for the recipe!

And now, here’s all the recipes you submitted in one spot for your taste pleasure! :)
