In My Neighborhood: Southlands Nursery

Friday, July 12th, 2013

Recently while in South Vancouver I stopped in for a peek at “Southlands Nursery”. Owned by Thomas Hobbs who is a local gardening icon, the shop and grounds are simply gorgeous! In the heritage greenhouse luscious orchids thrive beside an array of soothing fountains, imported italian pots and exotic plants. There is just something so grand about a giant Bird of Paradise or a Fiddle Leaf Fig, they make me think of palaces in far away tropical destinations. Of course the outdoor displays are just as inspiring. The nursery, known by locals as “Hobbs” offers a large selection of succulents, annuals, and perennials with a huge selection of roses. Such a treat to wander around with my morning cup of tea, lovely!

Saturday afternoon fun!

Izzy and I had so much fun the other day creating tiny fairy gardens. So wonderful to finally get our hands in the dirt after a long rainy winter. We chose cute low maintenance moss as the grass, and Hen and Chicks for our miniature shrubs in pots. Inexpensive bird houses from Michael’s make perfect fairy dwellings, so cute!
