Antiques Fair

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

I was lucky to attend our local Kerrisdale antiques fair last weekend. It was the perfect sunny day and the arena is a short bike ride from our house. Had a ton of fun hunting treasures and snapping inspiration pics. I walked away with an assortment of very retro matchbook covers, I will share some very soon:)

Love these Labels

Friday, June 21st, 2013

Vintage comestible (fancy term for food) labels are simply gorgeous, the time and care that went into the artwork makes them so very charming. My love of antique illustrated packaging verges on obsession, and as my friends and family know I have an ever growing collection. I think they are way too pretty to store away, but what to do with them? Frame them, yes, put them on recycled cans, even better! It couldn’t be easier to add some fun color to your desktop, table or nightstand. I am sharing three lovely labels from my collection with you. The “Dixie Maid” syrup label is a can label from the 1920′s, I researched the decade but I think her hairstyle makes it very evident. The other two labels were from fruit crates from the 20′s and 30′s. I have sized them for you so they fit around a standard Campbell’s soup can nicely. Simply print, cut them out and use spray adhesive or double sided tape. Voila!

Wonderful Vintage Shop

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

“Stepback” is one of my favorite vintage shops in Vancouver. Owners Robin and Chris carry a unique mix of antique and vintage finds. Collections of milk glass, vintage hotel dinnerware and reclaimed printers blocks adorn the Kitsilano area shop. They have a real knack for thinking outside the box, I recently purchased a vintage egg separating rack that I plan to use as ephemera storage (they used it as a card display) such a fun idea!

In the pics above you will find:

-Vintage show forms from the iconic Vancouver company “Dayton Boots”.
-A collection of vintage wooden printers blocks.
-Lovely bone handled flatware
-A stack of gorgeous retro suitcases.
-Colorful collection of story books from the 40′s and 50′s

Orange Crush

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

You may already know that Pantone’s color of the year is “Tangerine Tango“. I just love it and am having fun adding a modern fresh pop to my designs. Eclectic mid-century style is so hot for interiors right now and this is one of many places this color fits so well. Speaking of “Modern Vintage Style” check out my favorite new book by Emily Chalmers. It’s a great read on how to capture this coveted style and incorporate cool vintage treasures into your life.
